Nearby coffee shops seem to all close at 2pm, so if the hotel restaurant is not available, El Viñeda Local is a 3min walk and later night dining is available ‘til 10:30pm at The Livingston Bar, a 1min walk (ask for Ruthie, she was straight forward, professional and opinionated enough to make for stimulating conversation). Ask for Michael he’s experienced, knowledgeable and empathetic (being himself a runner, who himself works all day on cement floors). It’s across the street from the Fox Theater, 15min walking distance from Central Park, 4min walk from Big Peach Ride + Run (where you can try on a variety of sneakers if your feet are killing you from walking). The bed was comfortable, the mattress firm with enough cushioning on top, the lobby music is appropriately volumed and I didn’t have to put up with any “hotel fragrance”.
References to music and musicals is sprinkled throughout the hotel. Regarding the Hotel: the decor is pleasing, eclectic and earthy, all the lobby chairs are comfortable all of them, with a beautiful mid-century credenza greeting you when exiting the 4th floor elevator. Anyway, I talked about a variety of things with each of them and you’ll just have to have your own unique conversations with them when you get here. (It’s adequate 2 treadmills, a dumbbell rack, a multi-rigged pulley system machine, foam roller, yoga mat and mirrors.) He was talking to himself as he was analyzing some engineering issue -which appeared to be on the ceiling as I came out. I first met Charles coming out of the hotel gym after I went to check it out. Without disclosing personal info from our conversations, Devon, while she was serving me hot chocolate every morning of the Shaky Knees Music Festival, is the laid back, super intelligent and interesting life of the party. 5 stars to Devon, 22yr old psych major Server, and Charles Lewis, the Chief Engineer. If the manager is good (as in, instills confidence and creates an emotionally safe workplace - not micromanaging and causing staff to fear for their jobs), then staff are effective and relaxed so I can relax.
